Step 1. Register!
Registering on Yahoo! is SUPER easy. Yahoo! gives you a choice of creating a new account or signing up with a current account from Facebook, Google or Yahoo! Just remember that the name you use will be the name on your profile.
Click here to Register or Log in - Yahoo! Answers
Yahoo! Answers has MANY categories - You may click to enlarge
Browse Categories - Answer and Ask Questions
Once you have set up your account I encourage you to browse the categories on Yahoo! Answers. Find the areas that interest you the most. Most importantly - find the areas you write about! Use the keywords from your hubs, blogs or websites to find topics. As you continue your search you can begin answering or asking questions right away. "Best Answers" are chosen by the originator of the question and/or the voting public. Be sure to give great answers and include the link to your related hub. As readers seek answers and come across your response they just might click on your link as a source for additional information. Avoid being overly promotional and spammy. Yahoo! does have moderators and you want to be a good member of the community.
Note - Links will not appear hyperlinked until you reach 250 points (level 2). But, go ahead and include your links from the beginning and they will transpose when your level changes. It really does not take that long.

Points and Levels
How it works
- Earn points and work your way up the ranks. Your primary goal should be to reach Level 2. Once you reach Level 2 your links will appear as an actual hyperlink to your respective sites or hubs.
- Building up points is actually a rather easy process. Reaching Level 2 is doable in a very short period of time. I did it in less than two weeks with very little effort.
- To the right of this text box are the point values as well as levels for you to evaluate the process.
- Please be aware that you lose 5 points for every question that you ask. You might want to wait to ask questions until you reach Level 2.
Best Answer
Why do you want to be chosen as the Best Answer?
- Your answer will be the first answer shown and will be featured as the Best Answer to the question
- If your Best Answer is related to one of your hubs, blogs or sites you can include a link in your answer box (add the link when you answer the question - once the answer goes into voting or is chosen you can no longer edit it)
How do you get selected as Best Answer
- voting - the Yahoo! community votes for the Best Answer. Incidentally, you earn 1 point every time you vote. You also earn 10 points if your answer is chosen. Yes, you CAN vote for your own answer (once).
- author selection - the original author of the question can also select your answer as the Best Answer. This process supersedes community voting.
Tips!
Yahoo! Tips & Tricks
- Give good quality answers. If you have a related hub topic include the link in your answer's source box as a reference. (only include relevant links or you will eventually be banned)
- When adding hub links be sure it includes a referral tracker. You want to get credit for anyone that signs up for HubPages. A referral tracker is the only way to assure you recruited a new hubber.
- Be courteous. If something is inappropriate flag it. Don't rant and rave with an answer against a fellow community member. A rude or snippy answer puts you at risk of losing your account. If something is inappropriate just flag it and move on.
- Be sure your answers and/or questions are clear and concise. Keep in mind that the purpose of Yahoo! Answers is to provide information to the community.
- Check your "My activity" page and keep up with voting. Remember, once your item goes into voting you can vote as well. Voting usually closes on the 7th day unless the author chooses your answer as the Best Answer first.
- Once you get the hang of Yahoo! Answers get SEO and keyword crafty. Build your answers around the SEO/keywords in your hubs. This combined with your link will make for a terrific back-link to your hub. Remember, Yahoo! is a MAJOR search engine and your creative answers can get you to the top of the search engine page. Use your FREE resources to the fullest!
- REMEMBER DO NOT COPY YOUR HUBS! Do not copy your hub as an answer. It is against our HubPages TOS and you can lose your hub. Get creative instead and formulate an effective answer as well as including a link to your hub. Don't forget - the whole idea is to generate traffic TO your hub.
Remember, Seek, and ye shall find traffic!

Voted up and awesome.
Have a great day.
Rajan
Thank you for this hub. I haven't been around long but its one of the most useful tips hubs I've seen. Very reader friendly without TOO much information also!
MissOlive, wonderful article with very useful information for everyone. We should become contacts on YA. This was one of the first sites that I went on, way before HP and I loved it! I haven't been on for over a year, because I got so caught up with HP, but I should get back in touch with it. BTW, my name is prairieprincess on there, too, if you want to add me as a contact. Have a wonderful day!
Marisa, thanks in advance. I'll wait for the details.
A wonderful and informative hub on Yahoo Answers. I've looked around it a bit and set up an account, but I had no idea that you could do so much with it.
Many thanks for sharing. Voted up + awesome!
You are doing great, so I will give this a try! Thanks.
interesting hub. I haven't tried yahoo answers yet. I am on yahoo 360 and created a yahoo group.
Great overview and tips! Thank you! I keep hearing good things about Yahoo! answers and may give it a try one of these days.
These are some great tips! I haven't tried Yahoo yet, but after reading this I think I might give it a try!! I would love to find some ways to get greater traffic on my Hubpages, so keep the tips coming!
i think these are some great tips, i recently noticed that yahoo answers has stopped no-follow until level 5, any suggestions on how to use it for promotion?
Miss Olive, this is another exceptional hub! I have just set my an account with YA and will let you know how it goes. Thanks so much for the information, you are awesome!
Thanks a lot for another important hub on how to get more traffic to our hubs. I will definitely try it out. Voted up and useful. But where do we add a link?
Thanks. That is what I wanted.
Many times I have looked for information and there was Yahoo Answers right near the top of the first page. So a link from there must be helpful. Thanks for the tips!
This is all new to me but very helpful. Thanks for sharing this tidbit on increasing traffic.
This is very cool. I once was trying out WebAnswers. This is where you could actually imput Google Adsense and get paid for your answers. I doubt Yahoo would do the same thing, but I stopped using WebAnswers when I realzied that some people were losing their Google Adsense account because of it!
Great hub, I might have to try that out if I ever find some extra time!
Ha ha - I hear you about the extra time. I stopped using WA after I heard people talking about losing their google adsense. I guess it is too easy to have illegitimate clicks. One of the people I was following was using the site and got her adsense banned so I just stay away. I have come to far and am so close to payout and I don't want to give it back. Will be watching for your WebAnswers article on whether it is safe! ;) No rush - when you have time that is! :)
I've been using Yahoo Answers for a while now, but hadn't thought much of it as a marketing tool. Thanks for the info - I will definitely be adding my links there! Just hoping people ask the right questions.
Very useful, informative Hub....and I too am concerned about the WA comments in terms of adsense? Has someone looked into this thoroughly to prove or disprove this? I will truly appreciate knowing. I intend to open an acccnt. w/YA...but wonder....should I stop participating in WA? missolive, barbergirl, what say you?
Another awesome hub Miss Olive:) You are a great teacher. Thanks so much for always giving out such great information!
missolive - another great hub! You are so smart about these things and I learn so much from reading your work. One of these days if things every slow down, I just might have to have a "Read missolive's work day"! I will plan on a day when I am ready to learn from your vast store of knowledge.
I used to use Yahoo answers. I just do not like the fact that you do not earn money from Yahoo for answering the questions. I love WebAnswers as they share AdSense income. I also created a very detailed hub about WebAnswers you can check out if you are interested.
Now I am going to do this as driving traffic to my hubs is what its all about. Very informative hub thanks for the information here.
I love answering questions and will have to sign up for Yahoo. Great article thanks for writing this. Always looking for ways to get more traffic.
This is a Fantastic Article. I like your style of writing this hub. This is the article that everyone should read to attract more traffic.
I have started a blog where I publish book summaries of Best-selling books, I think this article will help me to generate more tracffic.
Hello, missolive! I have featured this hub in my weekly hub luv series. Great hub!
This is great information. I have been writing Yahoo Answers for awhile now and it does generate hub traffic. The only thing is the links on Yahoo Answers are "nofollow" links so they won't necessarily build up as backlinks.
But traffic is traffic, and like you say it really is a lot of fun. There even was a Yahoo question once about where to buy a certain product which I knew was in one of my Ebay capsules. I answered the question and made an Ebay sale, as well.
I have enough points that any links I add are hyperlinked, but it never occurred to me to include them before I had enough points so that they would eventually be automatically hyperlinked when the point accumulation was enough. This was excellent advice and an excellent article.
~voted up and useful~
Very useful and informative! I never knew Yahoo answers could be a backlinking tool - it is always nice to add another tool to my resource tool box. Voted up.
missolive - Go to one of your pages on Yahoo where you answered a question and posted a link. Then in your browser click view/source or view/page source. You will now be looking at all the code for the Yahoo page. Next, find your link's code. To find it easily search for the word missolive using CTRL F (or Command F on a mac). You will notice that rel ="nofollow" is included in the link's code. What that means is that when search engine robots crawl the web they don't follow those links, so they are not truly backlinks.
But Yahoo Answers is still a very valuable tool as you point out for getting traffic and so I use it regardless of whether or not it provides me with an actual back link. Maybe search engine robots don't follow the link, but humans do. And these humans may then become HubPage writers (using the referral tracking code that you have written about), share one of your hubs on their social network, or buy a product or click on an ad. I have gotten quite a bit of traffic this way.
Great hub!
Actually, I have a dofollow/nofollow hub in the works. Hopefully, you will see it on your feed in a few days.
You offer very good advice here missolive.
A very interesting hub. Could you also tell me what is the difference between Yahoo answers and QUORA? Thank you.
Very helpful! Thanks!
Awesome HUB... I am adding yahoo.answers to my seo arsenal hehehe... Yahoo.answers is a great way to get backlinks and at the same time great traffic.
You just gave me an idea on how to use my Level 2 account there...
Thanks a lot for this wonderful and useful HUB...
Happy new year to you and to your family!
Thank you Missolive.. I am always looking for useful tips like these. Voted up and useful!
Blessings,
~Lisa
Happy New Year!
I was thinking to write about it. I am your fan Missolive :)
Miss Olive, exceptional hub! I have set my an account with Yahoo Answers and will let you know how it goes.As I have read that its indexing is fast. Thanks so much for the information, you are awesome!
Great hub. I answered few yahoo questions and was voted as Best answer for one of them. However, I lost interest and forgot about it. Now, I think I can go back and be more active to help community and bring traffic.
Awesome! I have an account as I happened to stumble onto a yahoo question one day and wanted to answer. I haven't done anything with it since then. I'll have to try this. Thanks for another great hub.
Great post! I'm actually about to try this now. Good thing I saw this hub!
Thank you missolive for posting this hub!
missolive, thank you for sharing this information, it really works, I know.
Thanks so much for such an informative article. I signed up for an account, but I haven't done anything with it. Now I will get busy. Voted up and bookmarked.
Thanks for the reminder about the value of Yahoo Answers! I've gotten some great traffic referrals from it - now it's time to get back to the site and answer some questions! Good info, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the reminder about Yahoo! Answers. I had used this in the past, answering questions and building my points. At that time, I had a negative experience when out of the blue someone tagged me and I lost privileges. I had not violated any rules/TOS, so I appealed the determination, but it was to no avail. Will have to give it another shot now.
This is totally awesome. Thank you. This article is on my University class list now. I'd study it now, but the hummingbirds keep yap'ing something about getting the laundry done and fill the feeders - smile!
Very encouraging/motivating, and as usual, well done and helpful. Thanks much!
awesome hub missolive.. awesome!!
Just the answer I was looking for!! Votes and shared! :-)
Thank you for sharing this! I will definitely do this to increase my traffic! Voted Up and Shared! :)
Hello Marisa,
I have heard of yahoo answers and was interested.
Do users get paid for answers submitted? This seems to be the norm elsewhere?
Just curious and always handy to find another back linking site. Yahoo is definitely in that category!
I am sure it could be very useful.
Thank you, MissOlive, always a great source of info for me. Sandra Busby
This hub provides great information. I have an account at Yahoo Answers and I'm at level 2. I never really thought much about it in getting traffic to my hubs. I think I should. Thanks so much MissOlive.
Makes me want to start using my yahoo answers account more. Good information. Voted up, useful, and shared.
I have never heard of Yahoo answers but this sounds like a great idea. Seems like as long as you stick with relevant questions and answers to what you write it should be quality traffic. Your link about the referral tracker was also very helpful.
Missolive, you've done it again. A great hub to help us all increase our readership. I'm getting on this right now. Voted up, useful and SHARED!
Missolive, Thanks for sharing this information. I was going to try Yahoo Answers but chose WebAnswers instead because you get earnings from WA and not from YA. However, after reading your hub, I think I may give Yahoo Answers another try as a way to generate more traffic to my hubs. Voted up and useful!
This is so useful. I'm going to start there today! Thanks for the tips!
Thank you so much for explaining this so clearly! Since I don't have my own blog or other website, I've been struggling with how to generate outside traffic to my hubs. I have to admit I have some general confusion about whether Google sometimes penalizes you for creating too many backlinks to your own hubs, but it sounds like this is not a concern with doing Yahoo Answers, right? Thanks again!
This is a brilliant idea. Thank you for sharing this. I am definitely going to try this out. I love answering questions on hubpages and when I google things yahoo answers always come up in the search.

A fantastic review and a detailed insight of what Yahoo Answers is all about. I have used Yahoo Answers in the past and found it to be an extremely interactive community. It is amazing to see how many people chip in to help you out, isn't it? However I have also noticed that it is not entirely free of spam. I'm bookmarking this hub in case someone I know needs help with the nitty gritties of how Yahoo Answers works.
What is your experience with Yahoo answers? Does it drive significant traffic to your hubs?
