Need to dress up your website, Blog or hub? Need ideas for finding images? Here are 27 free photo websites for you to explore and use. Remember, due diligence is your responsibility. Not all photos are identified as creative commons. It is strongly suggested to apply credit to each of the photographs you use.

I usually use my own, but not always. Thanks. Copyright laws are confusing these days. In U.S. there is "common law" copyright (thanks to Edgar Allen Poe). Must be able to prove the date. Get it notarized. Computer can document. If you sell a piece (art, photo, written word), the copyright remains with originator unless there is a documented transfer of ownership. This way, no one can legally use or sell a copy without specific permission. We play pretty fast and lose these days.
This is great MissOlive! Times when I just can't use my own so this really helps...I know that sometimes you can easily just grab an image online but before you know it, the owner can take it away and worse, if you did not get permission to use! Your information on sources for free photos is very useful and a great hub to bookmark. I try to take a lot of my own photos these days, but these are really good sources for pictures that I won't be able to capture myself. Thanks.
How did you come up with all of these? So glad you wrote this. veezle looks helpful, as it includes photos from many sites. Do you favor some over the others? So far, I mostly use flickr and freedigitalphotos. This is definitely helpful--going to bookmark this one for future reference. Lots of votes on this one!

Oh, this hub is a keeper! We all need to be confident that the great photos we use are not going to come back to bite us. I have a couple of others for you to check out. Thundafunda and Free Photo dot com. I am not sure about Webshots for commercial use. Their photos are great but their terms of use is extensive. I've shyed away from that one until I know more about it.

This is such a useful hub. Thank you. The only one of these sites I’ve heard of is Flickr, so adding photos for me has been:
hunt through own (unorganised) photos, including those strange things kept in a box instead of on a computer. If necessary use temperamental scanner - could take another 30 minutes or so. Tear hair out when scan doesn’t work, and hunt through Flickr. Tear hair out after finding nothing of use on Flickr. Kick scanner and try again.
This will save me hours I am sure. I’ll have time to start meditating again!
BTW, one I don’t think you’ve mentioned, that surprisingly I have heard of is Wikicommons. Among other things it’s good for photos of celebrities. Although there are thousands of celeb photos on Google, it’s pretty hard to tell which are legal, so I used a photo from Wikicommons for my 'Cary Grant’ hub. The selection is fairly limited, but it is legal!

Seeking just the right photo can be a daunting undertaking - finding a legal creative commons one adds to the concern. I'm really glad I put this hub together. The sites are pretty clear as to which ones are creative commons. Regardless, we should all practice due diligence.

hi capricornrising - glad to see you stopped by to read. Careful with Flckr - not all images are considered 'creative commons'. If you find an image you like on flickr click the tab above it and it will let you know what the photographer allows. If it cannot be downloaded that service will be disabled. Don't just right click without checking first. I did notice that if I use flickr - storm it seems to only bring up creative commons images.

Great idea of compiling this sites missolive. This hub will really be a great help. I often got problems with beautiful photos which actually are copyrighted. I see these sites posts quality and beautiful images as well. Thanks again. 1 vote up and useful for this. Happy new year.
I, too, have bookmarked this Hub! I usually find good photos on google.com that are free. I use flickr mostly, though. It amazes me that some Hubs I read have no reference to the photos they use. From what I understand even if they are your own, you should note that. Thanks for all this info!

Ok back here again. How do you use the text breakers? I mean the image (stick) you place between each text and photo capsules...
dabasoru Htr - the dividers are used the same way as any photo. I simply upload them to a photo capsule.

As usual missolive - excellent references and information. I have to bookmark this as I'm sure I'll need those resources in the future. I know some of my earlier hubs need to be fixed as I address some of the issues you bring up, and as soon as time permits, I'll be making the necessary changes.
I use my own pictures now as much as possible, but I am always worried they will be used incorrectly by others.
I say that because I have been guilty of doing so in the past. It's articles like this that made me realize my mistake.

I have chosen this hub as one of my top 10 hubs in my tribute for my 100 followers. I thought a picture is worth so much. It was so hard finding free photos on the net that is worth using. These websites are all awesome. Thank you.

Since I first read this hub, I started using flickr and freedigital photos. They have such great variety. On flickr you have to be sure that the photos you use are allowed but the supply is great. Sxc.hu is really good too. Thanks for the great tips. I will be visiting the other sites to check out their photos soon, as well.
